The Sherline Individual Milling Collet – 8mm is engineered for use with the Morse #1 internal taper, a standard feature on both the Sherline lathe and vertical mill. This design allows for a superior clamping force compared to WW collets, making it particularly effective for securing miniature size end mills, center drills, and Dremel® bits. The collet is ideal for tools with shank sizes that are within .001 inches of the manufactured size, ensuring precision and stability during use.
The shallow angle of the Morse #1 taper enhances the clamping pressure when the drawbolt is tightened, providing a secure grip on the cutting tools. However, due to this shallow taper, the collet will not automatically release from the spindle. It requires the drawbolt to be backed off a couple of revolutions and tapped to free the collet, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
